Blueberries

Hello again! This is going to be another Reading With Snacks post. I like reading with fruit, and blueberries are one of my favorite fruits. There are so many reasons why blueberries are great snacks for reading.

Blueberries are small, so you can have a lot without having too much food. They’re easy to grab by the handful without looking when you are absorbed in a book. They don’t have anything on them that will stain the pages of your book, except maybe water, and that will dry. You can also put them in yogurt with honey and graham crackers, another one of my favorite snacks. I also had blueberries and raspberries in ice cream cones for one of my birthday parties. They were so good!

Anyway, blueberries are a wonderful snack for readers. Do you have any favorite snacks that are great for reading? Comment below, and enjoy your blueberries!

The Westing Game

This is a good book that I read a while ago, and just reread. It is kind of confusing, but it is still very good. I hope you enjoy it!

When dared to go into the spooky Westing House, Turtle discovers that Mr. Westing is actually dead, as some had thought when he disappeared from the public eye years ago, after a carriage accident that was nearly fatal. Sixteen heirs are chosen, and brought to the Westing house for the reading of the will. Instead of just plain inheriting things, the heirs discover that they are to take part in the Westing Game. The object: To win. The heirs are divided into eight pairs. Each pair gets 10,000 dollars. Absent pairs forfeit the money. There will be sessions in which to announce your one and only answer. The winners will inherit about 2 million dollars. Who murdered Mr. Westing?

As I said in the first paragraph, this is a great book I just recently reread. I like rereading this book because, if you wait long enough, you forget what happens and you can experience it all over again. I hope you enjoy The Westing Game!

The Trials of Apollo

This is a great series by one of my favorite authors, Rick Riordan. I just read the first book in this series, and that is what I will be posting about today. A few of Rick Riordan’s other great Greek mythology series include Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus. He also writes other mythology series, such as The Kane Chronicles (Egyptian mythology) and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard (Norse mythology).

The great god Apollo has angered his father, Zeus. Just because his auger, Octavion, started a little war between the Greek and Roman demigods, Apollo has been cast down to earth as the mortal teenager Lester Papadopoulos. Granted, the war almost destroyed civilization, but how is that Apollo’s fault? Although his memory of Zeus punishing him felt like yesterday, Apollo has been gone from the world for six months. During that time, the Oracle of Delphi, Camp Half-Blood (The Greek demigod camp)’s source of prophecy, has stopped working. Now, Apollo must go on a quest to restore the forgotten oracles that have gone dark to regain his father’s favor and his seat on Olympus.

I like this series for a few different reasons. As I said in the first paragraph, it’s written by one of my favorite authors. For another, Apollo is a very funny narrator. We still get the whole story, while also seeing how a god-turned-mortal thinks. Hint: He’s very self-centered. Anyway, this is a great series for pretty much anyone. Even if you have never read Percy Jackson and the Olympians or The Heroes of Olympus, you can still read this series. However, if you plan on reading either of those, you should read Percy Jackson first, Heroes of Olympus next, and Trials of Apollo last. Apollo contains a few spoilers, but they are well explained if you only want to read this series. Happy reading!

Wishing Day

This is another book that I read recently that I liked. I hope that you enjoy this book as well, if you choose to try it.

Natasha Blok’s ancestors instituted the age-old tradition of Wishing Day, when on the third night of the third month of a girl’s thirteenth birthday, she makes three wishes. The first is an impossible wish. The second is something she can make come true herself. The third is the deepest with of her secret heart. Is this just another superstition, as Natasha’s best friend Molly and younger sister Darya think? Or is it valid, and your three wishes come true, as the youngest of the Blok trio, Ava, believes? Natasha will find out when she makes her wishes, starting an adventure that intertwines all of her wishes. Will they come true? Maybe, but not in the way she expects.

There are three books in this series, each about a different sister. Natasha’s book is Wishing Day, Darya’s is The Forgetting Spell, and Ava’s is The Backward Season. I hope you like these great books by Lauren Myracle. I can’t wait to read the next two.

The Storm Keeper’s Island

Hello! I will be posting about The Storm Keeper’s Island, a really great book by Catherine Doyle. I hope that this post encourages you to read it, and that you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Fionn doesn’t want to leave Dublin and his mother behind, but he doesn’t have a choice. He’s on a ferry to Arranmore Island with his annoying older sister, Tara, to stay with their grandfather. Now Fionn is stuck on an island with no friends except for an eccentric grandfather (does he count?). He doesn’t even have Tara. She spends every free moment with her boyfriend, Bartley Beasley. Fionn thinks he’s self-centered, but Tara doesn’t care. Now, Fionn spends his days in a small house with candles filling every inch of space not filled up by something else, on an island that feels alive. What happens when the candles burn?

This was an amazing book. I hope you decide to try it. I think that if you do, you’ll want to find out what happens to Fionn Boyle next. There is one more book in this series, The Lost Tide Warriors. Have fun, and tell me what you think in the comments below.

Barnes & Noble Cafe

Today, I’m going to talk about the cafe at Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite bookstores, and I really enjoy reading a book I just got at their cafe.

Most of the time, I get a treat and a drink. There are so many choices! I love the blondies, but the sugar cookies are great too. I also love their cupcakes, and their chocolate chunk cookies, and…well, everything! The drinks are from Starbucks, so order your favorite, or try something new! There’s also pop, other cold drinks, and small snacks available for purchase. It’s always so great to sit down with a nice snack or drink and read a good book. There’s nothing like it.

Do you have a favorite snack to read with? A favorite treat from Barnes & Noble? A good book for me to blog about? Comment below. I hope you enjoyed this post.

The Egypt Game

Hello again! This is a great mystery book that I just reread. I think that many people will enjoy it. However, there are some kinda scary parts, so if you don’t want anything scary, you probably shouldn’t read this book.

When April Hall moves to the Casa Rosada from Hollywood, she is sure that her mother, Dorthea, will come take her back soon. Staying with her grandmother, Caroline, is completely temporary…right? Meanwhile, April meets Melanie Ross, another girl who lives in the Casa Rosada. At first, they don’t think they have anything in common. However, they soon discover that they share a fascination with ancient Egypt. When they find a deserted storage yard behind an antique store run by the Professor, they decide it’s just the spot for the Egypt Game. Soon, four more Egyptians join the fun. Then, strange things begin happening. Is the Egypt Game the cause?

I hope you love this book. I really enjoy it every time I read it. I’ve never read any other books by Zilpha Keatly Snyder, but based on the excerpt in the back of the book, I’ll enjoy them. Have you read any other books by the author of The Egypt Game? If so, how were they? Tell me in the comments below.

Artemis Fowl

I know many of you are probably familiar with the 12-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl. I just saw that there was a movie on Disney+ a few days ago, so I decided to reread the book. It was so good, I think I’ll go on to read the rest of the series, which I don’t think I’ve done before.

Artemis Fowl is no ordinary kid. His father, Artemis Senior, died from an explosion on the Fowl Star, a cargo ship. After the death, his mother has spent more and more time in what used to be his parents’ lounge, eventually living there altogether and not allowing any light in. Another way in which Artemis is abnormal is that he has a bodyguard. The Butlers have been guarding the Fowls for centuries, and Butler is the closest thing Artemis has to a father. In an attempt to restore the family fortune, Artemis decides to attempt to blackmail the People (what we think of as fairies, sprites, leprechauns, etc.) after finding overwhelming evidence that they do exist. After many scams and false leads, Ho Chi Minh city may pay off. Indeed, Artemis manages to take photos of every page in the fairies’ Book, a bible of sorts, telling all kinds of ancient secrets. Will Artemis be able to translate the book from Gnommish? Most likely. Will he be able to capture a fairy and obtain the ransom? Probable. He is a criminal genius, after all. Will the outcome be in his favor? Will there be unexpected surprises along the way? To find out, you have to read the book.

I loved this book, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. Comment below to tell me about your experience with the book. Until next time!

Biggby Coffee

I’ve decided to make a new category of posts. Introducing…Reading With Snacks! I love eating or drinking while reading, and I figured that you guys might want to know some of my favorite snacks to munch on while reading a good book. This post will be about one of my favorite coffee shops.

I love Biggby Coffee. They have great lattes, hot chocolates, creme freezes, everything! I found out about them when I was at my grandma’s house in Kentucky. I was working on a social studies project with my mom, and I needed a place to work. We went to the coffee shop for a few hours to work on my project with some good drinks. I think it was my first time trying a latte (If they would have coffee in them, I get them as a steamer. Coffee is disgusting!) and it was wonderful! We went back another day, and found out that a new location would be opening close to where I live. When we got back home, I waited and waited for the new location to open. Finally, it did! Now I love going there when I want something fancy to drink (and when my mom will let me). They have hot drinks, but you can also get them iced. It is so nice to have a hot drink with you when you’re reading in the winter, something you can grab without having to look up from your book. Same goes for a cool drink in the summer. When sit-down dining opens back up, Biggby has some great comfy chairs for reading while drinking a nice, cool drink. Best of all, if you wear a mask, you can still go in for a hot chocolate!

Do you know the shop I’m talking about? Do you have a favorite coffee shop to read at? A favorite drink or snack for reading? Comment below. I’ll be watching!

BIGGBY® Coffee fights hunger

Thea Stilton Series

This is a series similar to the Geronimo Stilton series, but starring the Thea Sisters instead (I’ll explain in a moment). As with Geronimo Stilton, I like to read these for an easy mystery with fun characters.

The Thea Sisters are 5 mice who loved Thea’s journalism class at Mouseford Academy, and remain close friends with their old professor. Violet, Pam, Paulina, Nicky, and Colette are close friends who attend Mouseford Academy and are nicknamed the Thea Sisters. Violet is shy, and loves art. Pam is a mechanic who is always hungry. Paulina is a computer genius. Nicky loves the outdoors. Colette is a fashionista who always looks picture-perfect. Although they are very different, they are incredibly close, and solve mysteries together all the time. They travel a lot, and Thea sometimes joins them for their adventures.

As with the Geronimo Stilton series, these books are written by Elisabetta Dami, under the pseudonym of Thea Stilton. Another similar element between the two series is that they both have special editions. There are more special series and books for Geronimo, but I have been reading my special editions about the Seven Roses Unit, Will Mystery, and the fantasy worlds. Have fun in the world of mice, and see you next time!
